Our Foundations
Like many people in the USA, in the very beginning pigeons were purchased as youngsters out of numerous Dutch Racing Champions, which were imported into the USA by people such as Mike Ganus, Ed Minvielle, Bert Ostlander, also older birds were acquired from Fred Smeltzer and Lewis Burns.
From those early days, many names, and responsible breeders have contributed to the development of the modern day SFL USA banded racer…a short list is… Ludo Claessen, Joep Koch, Verbree, Theo Ijskout, Steven vanBreemen, and Ad Schaerlaeckens have all influenced the genetics in our lofts, and from this side of the ocean, Earl Ressel and Lewis Burns are the stand outs who were besides mentors, the chief architects behind the genetic Foundations of the SFL USA lofts. The list of contributors continues to grow, as we produce or acquire those super birds capable of moving our Family Strain towards ever-higher levels of performance.
Our Mission
To design and build America’s Premiere Performance Strain.
A Premiere Family of Racers, bred especially for YB racing events, such as the One Loft, Futurity and Auction Race events.
Our Methods
We are young bird specialists. We are breeding for a very specific purpose. To breed a pigeon which as a YB is simply the fastest bird in the loft, at distances of from 100 to 400 miles, bar none.
Our method is to retain and breed only from the truly exceptional YB‘s. This is a continuous and ongoing process, of adding individual birds that appear superior to what we already own. We use a proprietary performance based selection process, which also incorporates a physical examination for those defined physical characteristics, which are considered requirements. We acknowledge that part of our craft is an art form, as much as a science. And above all else, we confess that we were extraordinarily gifted by the creator in this endeavor, while working with his creations and so give him the credit.
